چکیده
Struma ovarii [SO] is a rare, highly specialised form of mature ovarian teratoma, consisting predominantly of thyroid tissue. Malignant transformation occurs in about 5% of SO [1]. Diagnosis of malignant SO is usually made histologically. The majority of malignant SO show a follicular or papillary pattern of thyroid carcinoma. Conservative ovarian surgery is preferred when there is a concern about fertility [2–4]. About 24 cases of malignant SO have been reported until 2003 [5]. Of these only a small number were associated with pregnancy [6–8], in whom diagnosis of malignant SO was made during the pregnancy. Though pregnancy is possible after treatment of malignant SO, no reports are available. We document a rare case of a woman who had two successful pregnancies after treatment of a malignant SO.

Long-term survival in metastatic malignant struma ovarii treated with oral chemotherapy: A case report
Malignant struma ovarii is a rare type of ovarian tumor. Metastasis from malignant struma ovarii is rare and has only been documented in 5-6% of cases. The natural history and optimal treatment strategy for malignant struma ovarii remains controversial due to its rarity. The current report presents the case of a 45-year-old female who presented with a tumor of the rib bone. Following resection,...
متن کاملMalignant Struma Ovarii: Good Response after Thyroidectomy and 131I Ablation Therapy
BACKGROUND Malignant struma ovarii is a rare malignant germ cell tumor of the ovary. Due to the rarity of this disease, treatment has not been uniform throughout the published literature. CASES We present three cases of malignant struma ovarii. Following primary surgery, all were subsequently treated with thyroidectomy and (131)I ablation therapy, two patients as first line management, one fo...
متن کاملStruma ovarii - A report of seven cases
Struma ovarii is a rare ovarian teratoid tumor. Thyroid elements can be noted in almost 20% of the cases of dermoid cyst, however the term ‘struma’ is used when the thyorid tissue constitutes more than 50% of the tumor . The malignant struma ovarii is even more rare, and makes about 5% of all cases of struma ovarii . Majority of the references are in the form of case reports in the literature. ...
متن کاملAn unusual variant of malignant struma ovarii.
Struma ovarii is a highly specialised form of mature ovarian teratoma. When thyroid tissue constitutes 50% or more of the ovarian neoplasm, the tumour is termed struma ovarii. Malignant struma ovarii is rare and makes up 0.1-0.3% of all ovarian teratomas [2]. We describe a case of follicular variant of papillary carcinoma arising from struma ovarii with elevated CA-125 and pseudo-Meig syndrome.
متن کاملHypothyroidism following struma ovarii tumor resection: a case report.
Struma ovarii is an infrequent ovarian tumor, and there are only few reports with detailed data of thyroid function. In several cases, malignant struma ovarii have been shown to produce hyperthyroidism, but there is no reported case of hypothyroidism following struma ovarii tumor resection. A 62-year-old white woman underwent right ovary resection that had a pathologic diagnosis of struma ovari...
